South Carolina’s First Bach to Rock Music School Opening in Mount Pleasant

Bach to Rock (B2R), America’s music school for students of all ages, proudly announces it is opening a new school in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The community is invited to the free grand opening festivities on Saturday, September 30, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at 624 Long Point Road, Unit D, Mount Pleasant, SC, 29464.  Attendees are welcome to tour the school, enjoy a free music lesson, learn about individual lessons and group classes, try out free toddler “Mommy and Me” classes, enter prize drawings and giveaways, check out the recording studio, and meet the teachers.  This location marks Bach to Rock’s first school in South Carolina and its 24th in the country.

“We have been eager to open a Bach to Rock school in South Carolina.  The family-oriented nature of Mount Pleasant and its growing population make it ideal. Folks in Mount Pleasant and the communities of Charleston, North Charleston, Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island will truly benefit from our innovative and exciting approach to music education,” said President of Bach to Rock, Brian Gross.  Bach to Rock was founded on the premise that learning how to play music should be fun. And it’s proven that students learn best when they play music they love. “At Bach to Rock, students launch into learning popular favorites while our teachers expertly nurture their potential and share the fundamentals of music as they progress,” said Gross.

New Bach to Rock franchisees Brad and Cindy Dunnells are the proud proprietors of the school. “Owning a Bach to Rock school is a dream come true for us,” said Brad Dunnells.  “I’ve been involved in music, theatre and development for over 20 years, and my wife Cindy brings her financial and business acumen to our team,” he continued.  Brad’s experience as a non-profit fundraising executive renders him well-suited to entrepreneurship.  He has worked with many organizations, building awareness and community interest.   Cindy is a CPA, and excels at financial management, tax planning and compliance, succession planning and general business consulting. “It will be a joy coming to work every day helping students nurture their musical creativity, and ensuring our Bach to Rock school becomes an integral part of the Mount Pleasant community,” said the couple.

Bach to Rock Mount Pleasant will offer a variety of programs for students of all ages including: individual lessons; group classes such as Rock Band; the Rock City program for preschoolers and toddlers; Kids-n-Keys for children in grades K-2 interested in piano; along with summer camps and birthday parties. Studies have shown that learning to play music in a group helps students learn teamwork, develop social skills and build self-esteem, among other benefits.  Recently, Bach to Rock introduced MyB2R, an online dashboard offering customers real-time access to student progress and more. MyB2R is the only digital service of its kind in the music school industry, and provides the ability to track student advancement, schedule lessons, obtain homework and stream over 300 pre-recorded songs to practice at home.

Changing the Way Students Learn Music

Bach to Rock is reshaping music education on a national scale by turning solitary, boring music lessons into a group activity that is more like a team sport.  B2R focuses on providing a well-balanced music education because, ultimately, that is what parents are looking for. Unlike other music school franchises, Bach to Rock has an extensive curriculum. Students learn the intricacies of music — from theory to how to read music. Bach to Rock is the music school kids would have designed for themselves.  They get to jam with other kids right away and play current hits. The learning is the same, but the enjoyment factor is much higher.

Wayne, NJ Welcomes Newest Bach to Rock Music School

Bach to Rock (B2R), America’s music school for students of all ages, proudly announces the opening of a new school in Wayne, New Jersey.   Bach to Rock is expanding throughout the country helping music lovers become musicians.  Now, families in Wayne are invited to learn about Bach to Rock at the school’s free grand opening on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 1595-3 NJ 23, Wayne, New Jersey, 07470.  Attendees can tour the school, enjoy a free music lesson, learn about individual lessons and group classes, try out free toddler “Mommy and Me” classes, enter prize drawings and giveaways, check out the recording studio, and enjoy performances by instructors.  This location marks Bach to Rock’s second school in New Jersey and its 39th in the country.

Nationwide, Bach to Rock has instructed over 45,000 aspiring musicians since opening its first school in 2007.  The brand delivers a twist on traditional music lessons, offering something that’s akin to team sports with a spirit of creativity and fun to inspire students. “With Bach to Rock, gone are the days of boring and solitary music lessons.  Students learn to play today’s hits and jam with other kids from the start. You’ll see students paired up in groups and teams to help ignite the musical energy,” said President of Bach to Rock, Brian Gross. The Wayne school will serve students from Wayne, Pequannock Township, Lincoln Park, Haledon, Pompton Lakes, and Totowa.

Karl Kahofer is the new franchise owner of the Wayne school, and he brings over 20 years of sales and management experience in the healthcare industry to the venture.  The father of two daughters, he recently relocated his family to Bergen County. He noticed plenty of sports opportunities but didn’t see a lot of choices for kids with interests other than sports.  “I feel it is important that families have a welcoming, family-focused music school option as well,” said Kahofer.  “Additionally, there is a lack of fun music education in our school system.  My love of music and the importance of boosting the cultural development of today’s children led me to Bach to Rock.”

Bach to Rock Wayne will offer a variety of programs for students of all ages including individual and group lessons in piano, voice, guitar, drum and more; music programs for preschoolers and toddlers; beginning piano for children in grades K-2; along with summer camps and birthday parties. Bach to Rock also offers MyB2R, an online dashboard offering customers real-time access to student progress and more. MyB2R is the only digital service of its kind in the music school industry, and provides the ability to track student advancement, schedule lessons, obtain homework and stream over 300 pre-recorded songs to practice at home.

In a fierce competition at the 2019 Bach to Rock Battle of the Bands, 36 bands went head-to-head at City Winery in New York City on Sunday, June 9.

Over 800 proud parents, family members and fans came to support and cheer on students from Bach to Rock Port Washington, Bach to Rock Mamaroneck and Bach to Rock Nanuet.

The groups performed in both the Main Space and The Loft at City Winery and rocked the iconic hotspot.

“The students, who range in age from 7 to 18, and their band coaches worked tirelessly for months to prepare for this tremendous event and I’m beyond proud of all the performers,” said Bach to Rock Port Washington Director Elana Hayden. “While this is a competition, the main point is for the kids to have a great experience, to get to perform in a top New York City venue – and to have fun and feel like a rock star!”

Six seasoned music industry professionals, Carolee Goodgold (Carly Simon), John Miller (Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton), Brandon “Taz” Niederauer (Lady Gaga, Dr. John), Cameron Rasmussen (Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway), Jason Reese (Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti) and Wayne Schuster (Blood, Sweat, and Tears) judged the performances.

Over 150 students performed on stages that have hosted Lou Reed, Suzanne Vega, Joan Osborne, Taj Mahal, Patti Smith, and Buster Poindexter to name a few.

The bands were scored on several criteria including musical ability, technical ability, stage presence, material, creativity, and professionalism. All the competitors study a variety of musical disciplines at Bach to Rock music school, including music theory, instrument instruction, recording arts, performance arts, voice lessons and band coaching.

This is our student of the month: Indica! She has been playing piano for one year now! When she isn't playing music, she enjoys biking and disc golf. A fun fact about Indica is that her name means "night star princess protected by wolves". Her favorite thing about being a part of Bach to Rock is singing with her band Purple Nightmare, as well as playing piano with her mom who also takes lessons here. Congrats Indica!
